The Mashantucket Pequot tribe in Connecticut says it’s made a deal with the online sports betting operator DraftKings — as lawmakers are still negotiating legalized sports gambling in the state.
The tribe operates Foxwoods -- one of Connecticut’s two tribal-run casinos. The Mashantucket Pequot, along with the Mohegan tribe, have exclusive rights to gaming in the state. The tribes have pushed lawmakers for online sports betting for several years, with no success.
The tribe says they will launch a fantasy sports platform in conjunction with DraftKings next week that will include contests and online promotions.
Connecticut lawmakers in both parties say online sports betting is on the agenda for the state General Assembly’s next legislative session. Rhode Island, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania have all passed legislation that allow betting on sports.
